Strong Gums For Healthy Teeth

Healthy Gums

Healthy gums do not feel tender during brushing or flossing. They tightly adapt around the teeth.

Plaque is a bacterial film found above and below the gumline, generally devoid of any colour and hence invisible.

Ocassionally it may be whiter or yellow, and can be removed with proper self oral hygiene measures.

Calculus

Calculus which is hardened plaque, is a destructive, yellow or brown crust, that can only be removed by a professional dentist.

Gingivitis

There is some swelling, bleeding, tenderness, or bad breath; but the gums are still attatched high on the teeth.

Periodontitis
Calculus which is hardened plaque, is a destructive, yellow or brown crust, that can only be removed by a professional dentist.

Scaling

Scaling is the cleaning of the tooth surface which involves the removal of plaque and tartar from around and below the gumline.

Root Planing
Root planing involves the scraping and smoothening of the root surfaces of the teeth. This facilitates the firm reattatchment of the gum tissue to the root surface.

Curettage

A small amount of diseased inner gum lining is gently scraped. This, in line with root planing ans scaling, facilitates firm reattatchment of the gums.

Polishing of the Surfaces
This is done with a fine brush and rubbercup in order to remove whatever fine specks of plaque that may have been leftover after the basic procedures.
